Music publishers specialising in vintage music

Angusa Music

Angusa Music Ltd. is a 1960’s boutique music publishing company with a rich history and a diverse international reach (incorporated in 1965). Our journey began with the early recordings of Cat Stevens, a partnership that has left an indelible mark on the music industry.

Angusa’s catalogue boasts some of the most iconic songs of the era, including ‘Here Comes My Baby’ written and sung by Cat Stevens and recorded by renowned artists the Tremeloes and others. Our agreements with several sub-publishers are a testament to our dedication to ensure the correct registration of the catalogue and collection for our artists globally.

Angusa Music Ltd was originally managed by Albert (Bert) Shalet. Born in the East End of London on Hopper Street in Stepney, Bert had a diverse background. Before his entrepreneurial pursuits, he served as a lieutenant in the reconnaissance corps of the British Army from 1939 to 1944, contributing to the war effort.

Bert’s connection to the arts deepened through his marriage, which made him the son-in-law of the esteemed British film producer Nat Cohen. Cohen was a pivotal figure in the British film industry for over four decades, instrumental in financing early works by renowned filmmakers such as Ken Loach, John Schlesinger, Alan Parker, and David Puttnam, including the iconic “Carry On” film series. In the early 1970s, Cohen, as head of EMI Films, was recognised as one of the most influential figures in the British film industry, leaving a lasting impact on both the music and film sectors.
